Untouched nature in Wells Gray

The beautiful Helmcken Falls, Wells Gray Park
We just got back from a second visit to Wells Gray Park, we stayed for 3 days in this lovely place (July 17-July 19, 2004). We had a great time and stayed at a wonderful B&B. The visit to the park was as great as the first time and we had the chance to do some other hikes and see some more things this time. It was fantastic!!

Wells Gray Provincial Park is located in the Clearwater area in the middle of British Columbia. This park is known for its vast wilderness makes is one of the most spectacular parks in British Columbia. This park offers a variety of scenery and you can enjoy wonderful waterfalls, alpine meadows, snowcapped mountains, glaciers, beautiful lakes and streams. There are even volcanos, but these are extinct and you will also see lava beds. Then there are some rivers and streams, miniral springs and lush rainforest.

Abundance of Wildlife

You can enjoy many outdoor activities in this park. There are hiking trails to be find here. These trail vary from half hour nature walks to week long backpacking trips. And lets not forget about the wildlife that you might see here. You might have a chance to see birds, deer, moose, mountain goats, caribou, cougars, black bears, grizzly bears and smaller animals. Because this park is still such a wilderness park you have more chances to see any of thes animals..we sure saw many of them! So, keep your camera handy at any time!
Canoeing on Clearwater Lake

Canoeing/kayaking is really popular in this park too. There are 4 major lakes that are great for kayiking/canoeing. These lakes are Clearwater Lake, Azure Lake, Mahood Lake and Murtle Lake. You can rent canoes here or do tours with local tour operators for rafting/canoeing/kayaking/scenic float trips.

Great pics, Ann! I was there in '07. What a wonderful place. Nobody in the States has any idea where (or what) Wells Gray is. I'm very jealous you got such a close shot of a cougar!
