Genk, the Green City

Shopping street in Genk
Genk is a city which is located in Limburg, Belgium. This is a quite active place and there most of times you'll find something to do.

Genk has 2 main attractive recreation area's: Bokrijk open air museum and the area of Kattevennen with the Europlanetarium.

Genk is a multicultural city which you will notice by the several different churches and mosques. This is due to the influence of many different nationalities that you can find in Genk.

Because of the history of the colemines Genk has some wonderful architecture and buildings that are worth a visit.

Genk is also called "The Green City" even in the centry of the city where you'll find the lovely Molenvijver Park. This big park includes a lake, HeemPark, many lovely spots to relax and several walking trails.
Genk is tevens een groene stad, zelfs in het centrum.

De Maten is a unique protected nature area in Genk and also one of the most beautiful nature sport in Limburg.

The beautiful Bokrijk area

The beautiful Bokrijk area Bokrijk is a big recreation area which is suitable for you and old. You can visit the openair museum which bring Flanders of about 150 years ago back to life. This openair museum is an active museum that will take visitors back in time.

You can experience how they lived in the olden days, how they worked and how they would entertain themselves. There are more than 100 historical buildings to see, lovely gardens with flowers as also a herbal garden, windmills, trees animals and more. These buildings are equipped with all the authentic furniture and everything else like it used to be.

There's a whole staff that works at this museum in the summer that are also dressed up like the people 150 years ago. They do the duties and everything else the way it was a 150 years ago. You really feel that you stepped back in time.

There is also a big playground for kids outside of the museum grounds. There is an outdoor playground as well as an indoor playground

On my Genk travel pages I will go into detail about the places to see in this park
