Sejny Travel Guide: 19 reviews and 67 photos

Sejny is a small town (about 6 thousand inhabitants), not so far from the border with Lithuania. Here about 17 percent of population is Lithuanians. City is known from 1522, from letters Poland – Lithuanian commonwealth King Sigismundus Augustus.
Town started to develop faster after appearance of Dominican monks. Thanks to them basilica of St. Mary, Dominican monastery (theological monastery nowadays), printing house, education institutions were established.
As our trip was to search for Lithuanian traces in Poland, here, in Sejny, there is Lithuanian “Ziburio” school, culture house, here in 1863 first Lithuanian publication was printed in this region, Sejny basilica was known for masses in Lithuanian and its bishop Antanas Baranauskas.
