Mount near rivers Nemunas and Neris had formed this beautiful place. This city is very rich in history - it had been one of the main defensive places from crusaders, people of this city had seen how Napoleon's army were moving from one bank of Nemunas river to another and more.
I strongly believe Kaunas was recovered in times of 1918-1940, when this city was a capital of Lithuania. It can be seen from famous buildings of interwar period, from lot of monuments of independence heroes.
One more thing, I would like to say - I feel in Kaunas real Lithuanian spirit because of high populated Lithuanians in this place, because of specific architecture. Taking a walk through Laisves aleja and meeting "White Swan" - Kaunas Town Hall - is quite enjoyable thing.
I would like to revisit Kaunas in near future. Moreover, some must see activities in Kaunas still not visited by me. For sure, it is not enough one day to see all beauties of Kaunas, especially in hot period of a year. |
| | I have noticed, Kaunas is one of the towns, having lot of nicely kept gothic buildings - it is a different thing from Vilnius, which is more called as baroque town. What is more, Kaunas is more merchants city - probably because its location in almost the middle of Lithuania and due to two biggest rivers confluence. |
