The first time Kedainiai was mentioned in 1372. In the 16th century city was one of the first involved into the Reformation of church and centre of Lutherans.
It was multicultural city - mostly in the first half of 17th century much foreigners immigrated into city - Germans, Scottish, Jewish, Russians, so this could be seen in Kedainiai old town architecture and history. Scottish and Germans were mostly whose, who have ran to Kedainiai seeking better tolerance of Lutherans' religion.
Kedainiai city is a geographical centre of Lithuania - it is said that about 3 kilometres away from the city is a real centre with a monument to it.
Nowadays Kedainiai is famous because of Kedainiai pickled cucumbers factory and the former Russian nationality politician, who lived here and gave lots of money to reconstruct old town and some Orthodox churches in Lithuania.
- Pros:Cozy, nice old town, friendly locals.
- Cons:Too small for a longer visit.
- In a nutshell:Kedainiai - old town, the Reformation, middle of Lithuania.

Next time I visit you you have to take me to Kedainiai, but you buy the ticket: you know I cannot pronounce it well! :))) Great pages as usual, I really look forward to visit this town soon!
Thanks Raimundas for a very interesting page! Never heard about this place. Loved the Orthodox church tip. It was interesting to learn about Stolypin and the minaret which is only one in whole Lithuania.
Ah, I know Kedainiai bus station from when I first went past Krekenava. Later my friends took me to Kedainiai to sightsee a bit but I haven't been to the park as they were too lazy to walk. Thanks for the explanations.
Raimis, excellent new page. Kedainiai looks very nice when the sun is shining. I especially like the photo of the wooden statues. Well done ... ;-)
