Near the church there are some sculptures worth visiting. First of them is the Iron Wolf. From the legend of how Vilnius was founded we know that the Iron Wolf was like a symbol to show that on that top of the hill, where he roared a castle should be built (now it it is Gediminas castle).
So, Iron Wolf is very significant symbol of Vilnius and all Lithuania.
Another sculpture is more religious - Moses is shown with the Decalogue (10 God's orders how people should live).
At first I thought it was forbidden for tourist - maybe it is a private house, but I saw that it is a parish of Kernave.
Yard of parish is really interesting. Things I saw:
a statue of Grand Duke Vytautas,
wooden statues of religious persons,
a little pond.
A worker of museum said if the church will be closed, you can say to open it to parish workers, but I hadn't found them.
Address: Kerniaus st.
Directions: Near the main church.
There are two chapels near church. One is about 50 metres from church, another a little bit closer.
A wooden chapel (it surprised me) is build in 1820 -1822 and without any nail.
Another one is from bricks, style of classicism, octagonal. There is a mausoleum of Remer - Puzin family and was constructed in 1856.
Directions: It is close to a church
A red church was built in 1910 - 1920. There are a lot of famous Lithuanian paintings. Church is rounded by red brick wall, walking around you can see some frescos in it.
Unhappily, we hadn't been in inside of this church - it was closed and there was no people at parish.
Address: Kerniaus st.
Directions: A tower of this church visible mostly from every corner of Kernave.
These four historical mounts are near the river of Neris.
First, the biggest mount was called Pilies kalno piliakalnis (Mount of Castle's hill) because of the castle in medieval ages had been there. Crusaders and Livonia soldiers destroyed it and castle was never rebuild. By tradition, some holidays are celebrated mainly on this mount: St. Johns day, Days of Vital Archaeology, feast day and so on.
One more mount is called Hill of Altar (Aukuro kalno piliakalnis). It is the smallest mount and really simetric comparing with others.
Mount "Throne of Mindaugas" is the most tallest of all. One of the greatest view of surrounding greets us.
Another one and the last is mount of Lizdeika's hill. this mount seems like a big seat. It is like from two parts - big and small one.
All these mounts is a great history of Lithuania and I feel sentiments of this place.
There was some plans, pictures of medieval Kernave and my picture is one of them.
Address: Kernio st.
Directions: Near the church and wooden chapel of Kernave.
First church in Kernave was built by grand duke Vytautas in 1420. A signs of old substructure of church was made in 1930 commemorating Vytautas death 500 years anniversary.
Directions: Near new red church
