Lida is a city with the population of 100 thousand inhabitants. Historically and in means of tourism it is famous because of new reborn castle from Lithuanian Grand Duchy times. Lida castle was built in 1323-1325 by Duke Gediminas.
There is two different versions of Lida city name. First of them comes from Russian word "lyada", that means "the place, cleaned from forest". Another version is that Lida name came from river name Lidea.
