Liepaja - Latvian city of wind and sea - Liepaja

Liepaja is 3rd largest city in Latvia, having population of about 83000. It is important Latvian sea – port. The place is known from 13th century; in 1263 the settlement here was established with the name of Libau. After growing as an important port, in 1625 Liepaja got city rights. 3rd partition of Poland – Lithuanian commonwealth (1795) was a reason Liepaja moved to Russian Empire site.

At that time, in 1900 famous Karosta was built, a suburb for military purposes. Nowadays it is one of the most popular places for Liepaja’s visitors. Liepaja is also popular of its central part for some churches, wooden house architecture, Alley of Fame.

Liepaja is usually quite windy because of sea existence nearby.

Pros and Cons

Pros:Seaside town, nice wooden architecture, Karosta.
Cons:Not much to see, one day is enough.
In a nutshell:Third largest and windest Latvian town.

Looks like a nice town. Too bad you cannot take photos in Lutheran churches ;-) Love the wooden houses!

interesting place to visit, many interesting architecture-style buildings... as well as interesting orthodox church architecture :-)
