A Little Bit of Everything

Bologna might be my favorite city in Italy. Listen, for me to admit that I might have a favorite anything is a big leap forward (unlike the Maoist one, this is a positive thing).

Bologna is classy without being pretentious and obnoxious (uh, hmm are ya listening Firenze and Venezia)...It offers excellent events, venues and services to both its residents AND visitors (if they would only clean my sidealk, but they are busy handing out maps to tour groups from Hong Kong in Piazza Signoria).

The food (and is there a lot of it, and it ain't lite either) is consistenyl excellent, why they even serve tortellini at the Mc Donalds in the station.

You can (hold on to you support hose, buy a bleedin BUS ticket, on the B - U - S! (Good god, is Leonardo Da Vinci really alive and running Bologna!)

Everything is less expensive than in Rome, Florence or Venice. Of course that's like saying that Mother Theresa had less husbands than the three Gabor sisters put together.

The main piazza, Piazza Maggiore is the most user-friendly place in Italy, it is huge, it is clean, everyone from all walks of life come here. In Florence, you feel like you will either get drunk, mugged, molested or arrested in Piazza del Duomo at night. On Satruday evening, it is the gathering place for the Indian/Sri Lankan community and all they need is a catwalk for the parade of South Inidan Saris and Slinky Salwar Kameezs' being sported on the big night out!

Coffee anyone?

Oooh! This that they do is too good, the milk is whipped for about eight minutes till it turns into a heavy cream consistency type mixture, poured over espresso, them melted chocolate is poured over, and just to finish it off, shavings of dark chocolate are sprinkled over the top. (for the pigs reading this, there is a container, so you can add as much as you want - its kind of like the people who eat all the parmaesan (parmigiano) cheese in the container..Why do they spell it like that in English??? I find it quite annoying, must be the same cretin who called Livorno LEGHORN in ENglish, I mean how in the name of sweet Jesus do you get Leghorn out of Livorno, was this guy on bad crack? Had he been freebasing rancid Tuscan olive oil??

Back to the coffee, just a real treasure at GRAN CAFE, just near Piazza Maggiore - Via Altabella - don't worry it will be in the tip section..

Saturday Afternoon in the Piazza

What a beautiful Saturday afternoon and what a great way to spend it.

Too much going on in the piazza, the Radical Party getting people to sign petitions against the governments ridiculous chage to the law on assisted fertilization, a former emplyee with his protest wagon exposing the evils of the Yomo yoghurt company, a demonstration for the liberation of all (but mainly the 2 Italian girls) hostages in Iraq and the withdrawal of the Italian troops..and this was just between four and six in the afternoon!

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Big City, Great transport and services, Good organization
  • Cons:You tell me, if you are so smart...
  • In a nutshell:better than a jar of Nutella with nobody looking

I never thought of studying the different personalities of porticos before. But now I think I shall do so.
