What can one say about such a place.
Rome is a strange hybrid.
Not a 'big' city, but still the 2nd in population in Italy.
The only city in the world with two diplomatic corps, one for the Italian state, the other for the Vatican. No wonder the rents are so high with all these diplomats running loose in town! |
| | Where to start? It is almost pointless to tell people what to see. First of all everyone is hung up over the MUST DOS (this applies to most places, but especially so for cities like Rome, London and my home in Floville).
The best way to experience Rome is to do it SLOWLY. There is nothing worse that running from site to site (along with the other 10,000 members of the unwasheed masses of tourists society) to waiting in endless lines outside the Vatican museum, only to wait in more lines inside. For my Euro, SPACE MOUNTAIN is a far better return on my Euro.
This is not to denigrate anything, but merely, in my humble opinion to do things calmly and better to enjoy one or two things, then finish the checklist for Rome.
Remember the scene from European Vacation, where Chevy Chases daught drops dead from rushing around Rome all day??? |
| | European Vacation By the way, this was the hotel from the European Vacation movie, I think I will do some pages on where to find famous movie sites in Italy??HMMMM...Anyway, everyone passes by here, it is next to the Italian parliament, where generally you will see lots of spiffily dresses dues on cell phones with Gucci sunglassess - these are the drivers for the politicians - there, that's where our tax Euro goes, but enough about that! |

athomio Fri Sep 4, 2009 14:43 UTC I agree that they are a few among tens of tourist traps, but I work in the area and I know more than a couple of excellent places to get a pizza or a sandwich. If in doubt, just ask locals for directions on a good place. | brewjohnson Tue Feb 28, 2006 03:40 UTC Great, great tip on Da Pallaro. | Rubik Fri Mar 25, 2005 09:23 UTC You have such a nice wriitng style!
