Upham, New Mexico-The future of Space Travel

by RichardBlaine - last update: Mar 30, 2006

Jornada del Muerto or Journey to the Stars?

Upham, New Mexico
Upham, NM is not much of a place yet, but it promises to be the epicenter of the next generation of human space efforts. New Mexico has decided to locate it's commercial spaceport there, the Southwest Regional Spaceport. Planning and funding is in place to begin building the infastructure, and the first activity has been identified-The X Prize Cup.

UPDATE!!! FIRST LAUNCH! March 27th is the current date for the UP Aerospace first launch into space from the spaceport. All the payload space has been sold on the rocket, and the schedule is still on track. Governor Bill Richardson has been invited to 'hit the red button' on launch day.

UH OH! Welllll.......the 27 March date was changed to May sometime, and now rumor has it that it might be sometime in July! Other rumors are that New Mexico has had problems meeting construction schedules??????

In the meantime, Singapore and Dubai are getting into the business?
Yours truly at the Spaceport

At the Spaceport

OK, not much to look at right now, but that open desert in the background will soon be humming with activity. Of course, one of the positive attributes of the spaceport is lack of people and things, just in case of an accident.

I-25 Exit

This is the exit sign on Interstate 25 going north from Las Cruces, NM. Although I don't have pictures here, there are two billboard signs on the interstate north and south of Truth or Consequences.
