Van Gogh Museum: van gogh museum
  • Tip Rating:
  • if your into the arts this is a must do in amsterdam, for vincent is one of the dutch masters. the museum is very large, but accomidating to the large amount of visitors it gets each day. we were blown away by seeing all of van gogh's masterpieces..they had most of his more famous paintings. they also had a floor dedicated to japanese influenced paintings which was interesting. don't leave without seeing the picasso painting on the 3rd floor. the museum shop was also delightful and not over priced at all, we bought alot of stuff from there. we got 3 van gogh prints and a ceramic painting and some magnets etc...

  • besides the fact that the building it's self is an amazing accomplishment this place was one of my favorite places we visited. i really enjoyed walking under the museum. while we were there they had some monks that were chantting under the museum on the sidewalk, the way it echoed was really breathtaking. don't go here if you only have an hour to spend, we spent a couple hours and had to rush at the end.

Heineken Brewery / Experience: heineken tour
  • Tip Rating:
  • if you enjoy beer or have an hour or so to blow head over to the heineken museum, it's not a functioning brewery anymore. the tour is really small for the most part, the best part is the motion simulator that makes you feel like a bottle of heineken throughout the bottling process. the whole thing ends with you getting enjoyed at a party..lol.. the free samples and free gift make it worth it. the souvenier shop is a trap, you'll want to buy something or a few things i did. then you look like an idiot the rest of the day carrying this big green bag ( billboard ) that say's," HEY LOOK AT ME I'M A TOURIST"

Coffee Shops: the cat at the blue velvet coffeeshop
  • Tip Rating:
  • if you come across the blue velvet coffeeshop which is located on the same street as barney's you can meet the house stoner cat..he's usually laying down on the counter just to the right of the dealers area..you can pet him and if you ask you can take a picture..he's not the prettiest cat but he seems really happy..

    Coffee Shops: de dampkring
  • Tip Rating:
  • this shop has the largest menu i saw in amsterdam, they sell what they call the " fair smoke label " which means they only supply from smaller growers who only use natural and biological growing means..one of the more known growers of amsterdam SOMA sells his gear here and at a few other locations.. you can buy a souvenier menu at damkring for 5 euro which makes a great conversation piece when you get back to the states or wherever. the dampkring also sells quality hash which was some of the best we smoked while in amsterdam..also check out the frites store right next door the frites are very tasty.
