I lived in Manchester for over 2 years, so I got to know it pretty well. There are many sides to the city, some rough, some trendy. People are generally warm and very talkative but there are plenty of oddballs about.
One distinct advantage it holds over London is the close proximity to other major cities, for example Liverpool, Leeds, Newcastle, Stoke also the Lake District is close at hand.
All in all it is a pretty trendy place, although you will have to put up with the never ending rain. In short there is something for everyone.

Pros and Cons

Pros:Shopping, Man Utd, nightclubs, northern hospitality, closeness to other cities.
Cons:Drugs scene, a few loadmouth idiots.
In a nutshell:Trendy but rough

Quite an interesting group of pages with lots of information and helpful tips. I learned a new term with "scallies" (thanks) and about the 1st computer made there. Manchester Printworks sounds good, and the Urbis looks remarkable. Excellent job.

You dont know Manchester till you have done the curry mile. as for Weatherspoons my partners son works for them as a chef so beware heheheh joking
