Throughout the course of time, the city of Narva has seen the mightiest empires fighting to get hold over her, because of the strategic position in trademark..At various times the hosts of Narva were Danish, the Knights of the Germanic Order, Sweden, and Russia. The result of this mix of cultures, peoples and historic battles is:
The two great strongholds: The castle of the Order on the Estonian side and the castle of Invorgorod on the Russian side (the only place in the world where two hostile fortresses are facing each other at such close quarters - only 150 meters ) and the Bastions around the city marking the different cultures that lived in Narva.

Unfortunatly with the World War II, the rich architecture of the old city of Narva was almost completely destroyed,and the new Narva isn't standing still... we can see many abandoned buildings and many restorations being done. One interesting and curious fact is that 95% of the Narva citizens only speak Russian.
