Homage to the Duke! - Lone Pine

Homage to the Duke!

The Lone Pine Film Festival

The Alabama Hills are a living museum to the more than 300 feature films that have been filmed there...

The Annual Lone Pine Film Festival that runs around Autumn time (this year's, the 14th runs from Oct 10-12), plays only films that have been filmed here and, let's face it, with that many to choose from there is always going to be something for everyone!

It is a nostalgic journey into history that retraces the many great movies for it was here that:

British-Army-in-India movies were made.

This is where the "Lone Ranger" ambush was first filmed

This is where Roy Rogers first found Trigger.

And Tom Mix found Tony, Hollywood-style.

Here, Errol Flynn lead a patrol

And there, the cops chased Bogart on that road!

Hollywood first came on location in Lone Pine in 1920, and they're still churning them out with recent scenes being filmed from films including:

Gladiator, Dinosaur, G.I. Jane, Maverick and The Shadow...

Other famous names that have worked here down the ages include:

Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, Hopalong Cassidy, Clint Eastwood, Jack Palance, Cary Grant, Douglas Fairbanks Jr., Tyrone Power, Susan Hayward, Gregory Peck, Spencer Tracy, Alan Ladd, Tony Curtis, Jack Lemon and Natilie Wood, just to name a few.

You may find their autograph at the Indian Trading Post - Or you may end up sleeping in the same room they may have stayed in at John Wayne's old favourite haunt, The Dow Villa Hotel...

There is plenty on offer during the festival including: Friday and Saturday Night Concerts, Cowboy Mounted Shooting Demonstrations, Horseback and Wagon Rides, Parade, Golf Tournament, Deep Pit BBQ, Arts & Crafts, Memorabilia, Movie Tours and Special Guests...

Check out the Website for details of what happened last September, aphabetical movie list etc...
