"A Day Trip to Tilos" Tilos Island by M0B1US

We came to little Tilos as part of a tour group trip of Tilos and Nisyros from Rhodes knowing little about it, except something about 'Dwarf Elephants' and came away enchanted and wanting to spend more time here than the few hours we got...

Still we were able to make it up to Megalo Chorio to see the museum of the Elephants and the interior of the Church of Archangel Michael, as well as a long distance view of the Kastro above.

A long windy coastal trip up into the mountains took us to the spectacularly located Monastery of Ag. Panteleimon.

A return trip to Livadia allowed us a little under two hours to explore and grab a bite to eat before sadly having to leave knowing we had only scratched the surface...

All the major sites can be done in a day or so, but I would suggest staying over for at least a day to get some of the flavour of the island - especially as there is a unique nightclub set in the deserted village of Mikro Chorio during the summer months.

For those into relaxation on beaches and walking, Tilos is a dream destination as it is still relatively unspoilt, in which case you could easily enjoy at least a week or two on this island...

Enjoy the little town of Livadia with its beaches and tavernas, then take a trip up to Megalo Chorio to visit the museum and kastro above.

Check out the Monastery of Ag. Panteleimon in the mountains and then relax on the remote sandy beach at Eristos.

Get here by boat!

We arrived by the Tilos Sunstar Hydrofoil which was super fast!

Once on the island you can either get around as part of a tour group or by local transport such as by bus, taxi or hired scooter.

Or walk - Tilos is only 10kms in length, although very mountainous and therefore great walking country!
