  • This venerable former luxury hotel built in 1914 was a great place to stay in the centre of Prague, combining old world character with very reasonable prices including breakfast in the morning.

It is open 24hrs and the ceramic tiled interiors of the entrance hall and the cafe on the ground floor are claimed to be the only originals of their type in the world - they are certainly very beautiful and if you check the website, you will be able to see pictures of both these areas.

The rooms are fairly basic and none are ensuite due to the age and historic value of the hotel, but in my mind it is a small price to pay to appreciate the faded granduer of this place. Although the temperatures outside were frequently below freezing, the room temperatures were always very pleasant.

I actually booked this hotel through the website listed below which worked perfectly fine with no problems and best of all there were no commission charges...

Unique Qualities: Breakfast is taken in a room behind the coffee shop which is covered with ceramics from floor to ceiling. The breakfast is basic but good value.

Have you ever seen anyone fork out for the bowl of yesterday's donuts to chuck at other people? It's on my 'to do' list for when I'm rich and famous....!
