Restaurant Name: Oddverse
Found this place by accident on my wanders around Newport the first time I came here. As well as being a cafe in the classic sense, it is also a glorified 2nd hand bookshop, art gallery and spiritual meeting place with a very lively message board and stacks of alternative pamphlets. Really a very relaxing place and quite an unlikely seeming find in a place like Newport. Still, here it is and each time I visit Newport I usually make a bee-line for it as it is such a great little place to chill in...
Favorite Dish: They do fantastic baguettes here (and other stuff). I had a lovely mackeral with lemon mayonnaise one with my fairtrade coffee - yum! The menu is very extensive and everything looks very fresh at very reasonable prices for the size of the portions you get.

Coffee #1: Cool Cafes - A rapidly expanding Welsh franchise..

Restaurant Name: Coffee #1
Part of the rapidly expanding Welsh Coffee #1 chain (I think there's 6-7 of them now!) whose founder hopes to have about 20 in Wales in the next few years. This brand new one has opened very recently in Newport and is a welcome addition to the cafe scene - and always massively busy despite being quite a large establishment. It competes well with the Starbucks model in my mind, with a great location, a comfortable atmosphere and locals of comfy chairs and sofas. This one is well placed as it is on the main shopping street just around the corner from the museum and clock. The coffees are great, as are the cold drinks with a better selection than Starbucks and cheaper too! Definitely recommended!
Favorite Dish: Haven't eaten here yet, but the pastries do look good! They also do a great range in smoothies!

The Zoo Cafe: Cool Cafes - The 'Zoo' in Newport

Restaurant Name: The Zoo Cafe
It's name is probably a take on Newport's nickname of 'Zooport'... Either way this is one of the best cafes in Newport right in the centre just off Commercial St, with loads of comfy chairs, great music and an excellent range of Fairtrade coffees and teas, as well as the Welsh Frobishers range of fruit drinks. The other great thing here is the great newspaper and magazine selection to while your time away with. Finally this appears to be the best place for an internet connection in Newport as they have six PCs you can use at reasonable rates - or you can take advantage of the WiFi connection at the cafe... All in all, a rather nice place to hang out and chill...
