Old Village, Puerto del Carmen

The best time to come is either just before, or just after the main holiday season when you can get excellent bargains on package deals, picking up both cheap flights and cheap accommodation. Of the resorts we saw, the best one seemed to be Puerto del Carmen as it was centrally located with a good range of bars and restaurants available, ranging from the generic to the fairly sophisticated. As the main resort on the island, it was also large enough that you could easily avoid the tackier parts if you wanted to...

To get the maximum benefit out of your holiday here, you simply have to hire a car! We got ours through Auto Reisen for just over 80 Euros for the week and somehow managed to clock up over 900kms on an island measuring only 20kms by 60kms!!!

Such a low price affords you maximum flexibility and saves you loads of time compared to the alternatives of taking buses or taxis, and frankly would probably end up costing you a similar amount of money anyway...
