  • Name of Shop: Victory Theatre Antiques Centre

Housed in an old Theatre, this is a Blue Mountains landmark.

At the front of the shop is a rather fine cafe, with a 'library' of old books and magazines like the ubiquitous mountain of National Geographic back issues. This area allows entry to the main part of the building through a set of concertinaing steel trestle barriers of the kind you would see in old lifts...

Inside is a veritable cornucopia of antiques and collectibles housed in a vast open space on two levels, with the second level being a wide balcony encircling the whole of the main room.

The collection within is divided into several dozen individual stalls with an eclectic range from the antique to some modern items such as DVD's that seemed a bit incongruous in their surroundings.

The Antique Centre boasts the greatest variety in the Mountains as it is the largest Antique Centre West of Sydney and it's dealers from all over the area, so prices are very competitive.

What To Buy: The emphasis here is on household contents from the turn of the 19th & 20th centuries as far as I can tell, with a lot of later artefacts from the Art Deco era that are of a technological nature such as typewriters, telephones and lights. The are also collections of medals and clothing here.

As there are so many stalls, there are a great range of items and tastes on offer.

What To Pay: Australian antiques are without except much cheaper than those of comparable markets in the UK or the US.

Shame you didn't get into the valleys, perhaps next time. I think you'll find that the "leap" referred to is actually from the Welsh for valley, though I could stand correction there. Excellent info as usual

Very good tips and great photos of the Blue Mountains, I want to go to those look-outs but I want to hike in the valleys as well.

We share the same fond memory... That view of the valley from Govett's Leap is spectacular. We didn't go as far, just stopping to have lunch just down from the top. Rather romantic actually!
