Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: walking shoes are a must. Club shoes as well. Cubans like to dress up at night, so bring some going out clothes. Pack a sweater as well, you might need it for the killer a/c in some hotels. You cannot buy rubber boots in Cuba, so if you're a hiker in the wet season (May-Oct.) then they're a good idea.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Upscale hotels will provide towels, otherwise, don't depend on it. Bring all the toiletries you think you'll need if staying in a less expensive place. Women, bring extra tampons. Whatever you don't use will make good parting gifts.

Photo Equipment: You can get your pictures developed in Cuba, but because of a chemical shortage, there is no guarantee that the chemicals used will be clean, best to wait til you get home. Officially, video cameras are not allowed into Cuba, but this is rarely, if ever, enforced on tourists.

Miscellaneous: Writing utensils are scarce. Pens, pencils, paper are useful and great to give as gifts.

Bring Your Heart Along

Luggage and bags: Bring some plastic bags if you are planning on bringing some souvenirs back. A lot of the trinkets are very fragile, I found out the hard way.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: You don't need much by way of clothing. Bring a few nice outfits for the clubs. Bring a sweater, it can get chilly at night. Lots of T-shirts, whether you wear them or not. You can always give/trade them away.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Remember that these items are hard to come by for the locals. A simple toothbrush may be nothing for you, but pack a couple extra and see the smiles you can bring to their faces. Razor blades, shaving cream, toothbrushes, bandages. These are all items that I never trade away. I bring lots of these to give away.

Photo Equipment: If you take a day tour to Havana, bring lots of film. Also, if you are into old cars you will be in heaven. It's almost like time stopped back in '59. You feel as if you are in a movie, watching history play itself out.

Miscellaneous: Bring your heart. Tourists in Varadero are treated like kings, that doesn't mean you should act like one. If you look down your nose and shy away from people, you are cheating yourself of such a wonderful experience. Immerse yourself in cuba and you will want to stay forever. Vive Cuba
