Hat Yai - Shopping and Eating Paradise

by yurijade - last update: Sep 19, 2003

Hat Yai ! A place for shopping.

My brother and his friends was asking me if I would be interested to go for a holiday and of course I wanted to as my trip earlier was cancelled due to SARS.
Hat Yai was the chosen destination as it was the cheapest. Yeah we are all very stingy. Initially I thought of going there by flight but it prove too much of a hassel and more expensive. So we decide to take a busride. It was approximately 7.5hrs busride. The busride was comfy but a little cold as we were travelling at night. Lot of leg space and they provide a blanket too.

On arriving Bukit Kayu Hitam immigration we need only to take our passport then go up the bus and later got down at Sadoa for Thailand immigration with our passport. Must remember not to lose our departure card.

The journey continue for about an hour to Hat Yai. On arrival we got our 'going home' tickets. You can also book your hotel here and the rate is cheaper but there is a chance that you might not get the hotel that you want especially if the day you arrive is a Thursday. Thursday and Friday in Hat Yai is like Saturday and Sunday in KL.

The best place to go for shoping is the market. Just be sure to really bargain hard. It would be good if you know a little Hokkien or bring a calculator. In the market you can get Zebra pots (a real bargain), clothes, cashew nut, dried meat floss, blueberry wine and lots of souvenir craft. Here you must use cash. No credit cards. The time to use credit card would be in Shopping complex.
Everthing here is CHEAP. I mean very much cheaper than KL.
