The City Burgas is the 4th largest city in Bulgaria and the 2nd largest city on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. As a dutiful citizen of Burgas I should tell you that it is the most beautiful city in the country but such a statement would be very subjective, wouldn't it :) |
Beaches One of the attarctions of Burgas is its beach and its proximity to resourts and resort-towns in the southern part of the Black Sea coast. Definitely visit during the summer - then the streets are full of life and the weather is at its best (although we have a nice fall, winter and spring too:) Bordering the city beach is the beautiful Sea Garden (Morska Gradina) full of trees, flower beds, fountains, and sculptures (some remaining from the time of the Socialist regime). |
Nearby Attractions Sozopol is a small town south of Burgas (about 30 km away). It is the site of the ancient Greek colony of Apollonia and a popular summer destination. However, Sozopol is not your typical tourist-trap sort of a town. It attracts mostly young people from the country, some of whom willing to sleep on the beach and the parks around it for a day or two if not able to find accomodation in the peak season. Sozopol has an old part with narrow winding streets and wooden Revival-type houses as well as numerous family-owned taverns and small restaurants serving, of course, fresh seafood and Bulgarian specialties. |
