The City

Burgas is the 4th largest city in Bulgaria and the 2nd largest city on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. As a dutiful citizen of Burgas I should tell you that it is the most beautiful city in the country but such a statement would be very subjective, wouldn't it :)

The beach

Beaches

One of the attarctions of Burgas is its beach and its proximity to resourts and resort-towns in the southern part of the Black Sea coast.
Definitely visit during the summer - then the streets are full of life and the weather is at its best (although we have a nice fall, winter and spring too:)
Bordering the city beach is the beautiful Sea Garden (Morska Gradina) full of trees, flower beds, fountains, and sculptures (some remaining from the time of the Socialist regime).

Sozopol

Nearby Attractions

Sozopol is a small town south of Burgas (about 30 km away). It is the site of the ancient Greek colony of Apollonia and a popular summer destination. However, Sozopol is not your typical tourist-trap sort of a town. It attracts mostly young people from the country, some of whom willing to sleep on the beach and the parks around it for a day or two if not able to find accomodation in the peak season.
Sozopol has an old part with narrow winding streets and wooden Revival-type houses as well as numerous family-owned taverns and small restaurants serving, of course, fresh seafood and Bulgarian specialties.
