"Dreaming of old Europe..." Budapest by Stevieboy

Can you fall in love with a city?

How short can one be in one place and still find that there was enough time to come and like it so much?

Budapest has everything to make it an ideal place for an extended weekend trip: impressive buildings, easy access, human-sized organisation, friendly people, ...

An extra plus is that it is quite cheap compared to other traditional Euro-citytrip-destinations (eg Barcelona, Vienna, Paris...).

I’m definitely going back there soon!

Manageable...

Budapest is quite manageable for tourists. The city center is nicely compact and has a lot of features within the distance of a good walk.

The fact that the busiest streets in the center are equipped with underground pedestrain crossings make the city even more accessible - at least if you can handle stairs (escalators are not common).

If you want to venture a bit further, there is always the well-organised subway as well as aboveground public transport.

... and green!

The dots of green in the city make Budapest a very nice and cosy place to walk around in.

Every now and then the city surprises you with a patch of trees somewhere in an open corner, or a little quiet park somewhere in-between.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Old Europe at it's best
  • Cons:A bit run down; it could do with a big clean-up
  • In a nutshell:A place with character - metropolitan, ancient, historic, yet human-sized!

Hi Steve, long time! Nice page with personal touch about Budapest. I'm thinking about going there along with Vienna and Prague.

Wanna know what that street sign means, ha? :) 'If you're willing to cross, please: 1 press button 2 wait for green signal 3 cross on green signal!' Sounds better now? Good page!
