France is a beautiful and incredibly diverse country. I had never expected there to be such varied landscapes and so much lovely old architecture. I guess I have to put that down to my own naivety but I certainly am glad that I got my wake-up call.
The first 3 days were spent in Paris and were nowhere near enough. A city with so much flair, such beauty, so much to see and do. It was the kind of trip that I usually try to avoid as we rushed from one place to the next, only catching glimpses of places that deserved our attention. Looking on the bright side, I now know of a lot of places to visit when I am there next time.
We saw many beautiful parks and gardens that would warrant taking half a day to leisurely stroll, sitting back and enjoying the surroundings and the sunshine.
After Paris, next stop was Provence, an architectural, cultural and scenic masterpiece. Again there was so little time and so much to see that we barely scratched the surface. This region of France is what really surprised me. I knew what to expect but was still in awe at the beauty and diversity. One minute rolling foothills and narrow country roads, the next breathtaking views of the Cotè dAzur and bustling cities.
The details of some of these places will gradually unfold on these pages, hopefully to be followed by photos. |
