it is an interesting town/city. A place with no outstanding attraction, a pleasant place nonetheless. being renowned as a fashion capital, it is alive with clothing stores ranging from reasonable to outrageous.
it is credited with "the longest bar in the world", refering to the "altstadt" or old town. this part of town is filled with bars and restaurants, with enough variety to please just about everyone.
in the summer, the promenade along the rhine river is the place to be. plenty of grassed areas for a lazy novel-reading-session or just stroll down to the hafen (harbour) for something different.
the architechtural style of certain buildings may challenge the expectations of conservative architechtural admirers.
this city is quite conservative in many aspects but the people are generally quite fun loving and friendly. in a worst (or best) case scenario, there are quite a few irish pubs where one can go to make the whole world seem wonderful once more. |
| | oberkassel, across from the altstadt is a nice part of duesseldorf to explore. |
| | grassy areas that are packed in summer but a nice place to relax or wait for the pubs to open |

BillNJ Mon Mar 24, 2008 02:08 UTC Pat, I totally agree with your assessment of Gehry. However, please don't associate all Americans with his deconstructionist style! Best regards from the USA, Bill | Kristina1701 Tue Jul 22, 2003 14:47 UTC funny page! *lol* :-) | Henkster Tue May 27, 2003 17:14 UTC Yeah, Rhinepromenade + their Altstadt is quite cool, but that's about it.
