A wonderful place - I am slightly biased as I lived and worked in Brno for a few years and felt at home amongst the pleasant Moravians. Brno is regarded as an industrial city, butit is more than that with a strong history and culture. The longer and harder you look the more nice surprises you will find. I often found myself discovering new little sights especially on the buildings. Brno as some really interesting architecture and some superb buildings. |
As the second city of the Czech Republic, it is a city that is certainly worth a visit if in the region. Possibly known because of its Trade Fair (the fairgrounds being of modern architectural interest) or Motorcycle Grand Prix. The cathedral of Saints Peter & Paul (Petrov) and Spilberk Castle stand proudly above the town on seperate hills giving pleasant views. Some other places to see would include the Old Town Hall with its interesting entrance gate and the Brno 'Dragon', being part of the city's historical legends; Zelny Trh (Cabbage Market), which is still a working market and has an interesting fountain as its centrepiece. There are of course several other things, but most importantly I think, is that with Brno you can experience a Czech city unlike Prague which is a tourist city. |
