You can bring your recyclables to this shop-there are collection pallets outside next to the shop. Kandersteg recycles glass, paper, and plastic.

What to buy: Besides meat, a few other grocery items. And I bought a pair of sheepskin moccasins that I'm wearing right now! (and buying souvenirs from the butcher shop is cheaper-hee hee)

The Metzgeri: The Butcher Shop

Kandersteg has two butcher shops, both on the main drag. One is more in the center of town, the other was closer to our place. Since we were eating at home most nights, we would visit one butcher or another in the morning for our meats. Their selections varied daily. Pork, chicken and fish are prominent. Very little beef. If you want something special--breaded or stuffed or marinated, you can order it in the morning and the butcher will have it waiting for you that afternoon. But be careful, the shops close at 6 pm.

What to pay: A lot less than eating out
