    • From say, 4 o'clock to 7 o'clock, this is the time to head out to your neighborhood cafes. Here you will sit with a drink and chat while you watch the people. Very relaxing and enjoyable. It is true, the Italians like to check each other out, but I do too, so it suit me just fine.

    • I read about the cat ladies of Rome, and sure enough, we had one of our own. Every morning right before 7 am, a woman would come into the courtyard and leave fresh food and water for 3 gray, stray cats. (Inside the little open hut to the right of the picture.) They kept a wide berth until she left and then they would go dig in. They spent the rest of the day laying about in various places in the courtyard. Cushie life...

    • It was sunny and HOT! Our best defense was to start early, (8 o'clockish) come home for the afternoon (3pm) and take a nap, and then head out again (7pm). This system worked well for us and it seems to fit in with the local afternnoon closings of restaurants and other small businesses. Of course, the little internet cafe on our corner closed and opened whenever they felt like it....hit or miss with that place...

    • Who doesn't like to people watch? And Rome is such a great place to do so. The young, the old, the in-betweeners. From cafe' tables, while passing each other on the sidewalk, from windows up above. No special skills necessary. But a curious nature and a good imagination make this hobby a very fun one...
