Restaurant Name: San Trovaso

We were going to eat at the pizza place of the same name, owned by the same people, but it wasn't open. So we walked around the corner and found this place! As Venice was very hot this day, the air conditioning was a welcome feeling! I made the mistake of getting the tourist menu. It was hit or miss. Some courses were good, others were so-so. Overall, it was a ummmm...., good enough experience, but I wouldn't go out of my way to find this place on a return trip.

Favorite Dish: The pasta course was lasagna. The sauce was quite spicy and I would have gladly eaten another dish of this over the meat course. (the chicken was dry)

Restaurant Name: Small cafes

In the same places were you can order a cafe at the bar there may also be some small, triangular half-sandwiches able to purchase. They are called tramezzini. They are delicious and cheap! They are filled with say, tuna, egg, ham, shrimps, or a combination of all these, in a mayonaise type sauce. We would buy some each morning after our cafe and eat them later for lunch. YUM!

Restaurant Name: Al Giardinetto Ristorante

We spent most of the week people-watching this family. Their restaurant was right across from our apt. Mom, Pop, teenage son and teenage daughter. Son has a boat he would tool around in much like other boys will do with their cars. He was quite a flirt and we got a kick out of watching him make the tourist girls giggle.

Mostly this place fills up with their own friends and family each night. It gets quite loud and festive. Tourists who stopped in usually did just because they were wandering by at the right time for their stomachs. We would watch them pause and read the menu, consult and decide to try it out. The family always encouraged the tourists to eat at one of the few outside tables. (I think they like to keep the inside for family and friends...) The outside tables are nice though. This restaurant is by a small canal and the people and boat watching is fun. Musical gondoliers pass by sometimes too.

Favorite Dish: I do not even remember what I had here-so it must have been neither very good nor very bad. But my daughter, who ordered spaghetti and clams 9 times out of 10 meals, said it was the best she'd had so far...

Friendly, timely service. Great atmosphere.

Favorite Dish: Lots of kinds of pizzas. We all ordered different types and sampled each others'.
