In the 17th century, this area was notorious for its witch hunts. Located on the Mosel, Winningen is full of witches; a fountain, wood carving, souvenir dolls, witches hanging here, there, everywhere.
The July day we visited Winningen, there was a witch festival in progress.
In late August, Germany's oldest wine festival is celebrated here. |

A witch festival, sounds interesting. And I also would rather eat Apfelkuchen than Ragout Fin (only ate it once, but without veal brain at least)! |
