Greenwich: Meridian Line Straddling and Cutty Sark

by Confucius - last update: May 23, 2006

The Number One Reason Tourists Go To Greenwich

Greenwich, England: Here is where it all starts
Everybody wants that classic tourist photograph straddling the Greenwich Meridian Line with one foot in the West hemisphere and the other across the line on the East.
They don't call it "Greenwich" for nothing

Enjoy The Natural Setting

The Queen's House, National Maritime Museum, and Royal Observatory are surrounded by a green glen and gardens.
The Cutty Sark is a ship museum in Greenwich, U.K.

Relive Brittania's Maritime Past Aboard Cutty Sark

This famous ship was used during the Qing Dynasty to bring tea back to London from China.
Along with the Royal Observatory, the Cutty Sark is one of the primary attractions in Greenwich but you should know that after September 30, 2006 it will be closed for renovations.

Pros:"Despite being so close to London, Greenwich retains much of its village character"
Cons:"You'll need more time to enjoy Greenwich properly, so plan an entire day to see it all"
In A Nutshell:"For more details, please visit the Greenwich page of my VT buddy MarkJochim"

Did I miss the picture of you on the zero line? I have a picture of me on it somewhere laying around, it's a must when you visit Greenwich!

Great page on Greenwich. I didn't know I could get a certificate!! I don't think the equator crossing 'counts' unless you've done it on a ship. Bob has done that - I've only done it by plane.
