I was sent to Mora Aerospace, about 20 minutes outside of Olomouc, on business. My stay was only a week long so there was not much time to site-see, but what I observed of the area is that there is much restoration going on. The favorite car is the Skoda which, I believe, is produced in the Czech Republic. The car is as technically advanced as any other car in the world, moreso in some cases, such as a data card is used for an ingnition switch. There are varieties of accommodations. Those of us who are from arid dry and hot climates are used to staying in hotels/motels with air conditioning. In Olomouc there are some hotels with air conditioning in some rooms but you have to ask for it. For the most part if the hotel is old then there won't be any a/c but all windows open to let in fresh air. The water is good to drink but if you like bottled water you will need to ask for 'plain water' otherwise your choice will be their standard carbonated water or water with 'no gas', as they call it. This water tastes like it was carbonated at one time. The food is as good as mom's food. (And they do have a Mickey D's on the square for those that get home sick. I didn't) If I have a chance to vacation in Europe I will definitely return to Olomouc. It was well worth the one week that I did get to spend there. |
