Kovalam beach - State of Kerala
Kovalam beach

Rather known for European tourists - perhaps the most "touristy" spot in entire Kerala.

The best time to visit beaches in Kerala is Oct - Feb, when the monsoon leaves and the weather is pleasant.

Visit my Kovalam page for more info.

Forming part of the Vembanad Lake, Kumarakom is growing for backwater destination. Some resorts are built on the edges of backwater for its enchanting view.

One side of the lake is a bird sanctuary.

Padmanabhaswamy Temple

Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the temple is located at the heart of Trivandrum city inside East Fort. The temple is said to exist as early as 3rd century BC.

Stone carvings cover the exterior of temple while inside is Lord Vishnu reclining on Anantha the Serpent. Unfortunately, the entrance is permitted only to Hindus.

Ashtamudi

Ashtamudi estuary is a strech of backwater in Kollam. Shores of the estuary are fringed by palm trees and dotted with Chinese net.

Some of the houseboats are operated from here as well as daily cruise.

Thekkady - State of Kerala
Thekkady

Personally, Tekkady National Park is a bit of disappointment for there is not enough area to explore freely unless you take a boat ride or trekking. Since boats are all changed to motors, I don’t know what are the chances of actually encountering animals. And for trekking, there is a higher charge for foreigners.
