From Seoul to Jeju

The best way to get to Jeju is by plane. And once you're in Korea, taking a plane is pretty much like taking the subway. It's cheap, fast and convenient. There's no need to buy a ticket beforehand. Just turn up at the domestic airport in Seoul (GIMPO AIRPORT is accesible via subway line 5) and purchase a ticket from Korean Air or Asiana Airlines. Tickets from KoreanAir is cheaper. Sometimes, you'll even get a discount if you book your tickets online. Check the website I included below..

Rent a Car in Jeju

Rent a car while you're in Jeju or you'll be at the mercy of Korean - speaking guides and the availability of the sparse buses in the islands. Most of the best scenic sites of the island are at remote places so you'll need a car to see them.
I got this 1.3L, Hyundai Family Car for about US$80 for 3days and 2 nights from Jeju Ok rent a car. The chap there was remarkably friendly and he even gave me a 50% discount because of my credit card. Here's the details in case you need a car as well:

By Ferry to Cheju Island

Now, I really wouldn't recommend this to anyone since the journey to Cheju by ferry is long, ardous and it drives a person with ADD like me, NUTS! But still there are a lot of patient folks out there so here's the details. You can take a ferry from all over Korea to Jeju, really!

Here's a sample of the prices and places of embarkation, based on 1st class cabin rates ( You wouldn't want to travel 3rd class for 11 hours or so right?)

Road Signs in Cheju

Signs for tourist sites are written in three languages (English, Chinese, Korean )in Cheju and other parts of South Korea. Also, the whole of Cheju is divided into clearly maked expressways and roads. So it's pretty easy to drive around here. Just take note that the signs for minor roads are only written in Hangul though, so ask for directions in broken Korean if you have to..
