Shazan Inn: The Moderately Priced Inn

During our time here, we met a botanist who stayed here. It looked like a respectable joint that offered a twin-share bedroom for RM100 ( with breakfast ). Maybe I'll stay here the next time since it's so near town!

Puncak Inn: The cheap and convenient joint

If you're looking for convenience and want to stay smack in the centre of the town, Puncak Inn should be your choice. This joint has rooms for RM55 nett for the budget traveller. There are a couple of restaurants and souvenir shops at its ground level but be forewarned..nothing here is edible!

We had our first meal at the Nasi Padang shop over there and the food really tasted bad. If you're staying at this inn, you'll have better luck walking to the eatery (Kheng Yuen Lee Restaurant) that serves a decent curry laksa along Jalan genting or the Strawberry cafe (MIMI Taman Strawberi Kafe) opposite the mosque.

Address: 49000 Fraser's Hill, Pahang

Comparison: less expensive than average

Directions: It's smack in the centre of town, you can miss this tall grey structure.

A generic family joint, fraser's pine resort - Bukit Fraser

A generic family joint, fraser's pine resort

Fraser's Pine Resort: A Generic Family Hotel

My group stayed in this generic family joint and though we saw lots of birds over here, we can't say that this place is like the ritz. This was what grated our tender nerves:

1)Crowds! This joint is extremely popular with local companies doing their annual retreats and clan associations doing their annual karaoke queen contest.

2)The rooms, though clean, have seen better days with their musty carpets and curtains. One of the loos we had had loose piping for hot water so we scalded our asses while bathing.

3) This resort was a tad far from town

Despite all these pitfalls, it is alright to stay at this place if you're part of a big group looking for a reasonably-priced place to crash in. We paid just Rm500 for a 3 bed room suite a night. The restaurant serves Chinese food that is edible.

A tudor cottage in Fraser's - Bukit Fraser

Ye Olde Smokehouse: The Quaint Inn at Fraser's The Smokehouse Hotel Review
Show Prices

If you fancy a nice comfortable stay while at Fraser's, Ye Olde Smokehouse is a good bet. It's full of character since it's an old colonial bungalow, built-Tudor style. Though it is a tad expensive and half the size of its sister hotel in Cameron's, it's worth a spurlge if you're with someone special;p

Unique Qualities: Here's what I love about this place:

1)it's one of those place where there is a charming drawing room with a fireplace. If you haven't the faintest idea what a drawing room is, picture the kind of place where colonial bigwigs will hang out with cigars and brandy to boast about the tiger that got away.

2) If you're not into drawing rooms, there's also a nice flower garden which attracts beautiful black-throated sunbirds and streaked spiderhunters and drooling birders.

3)The bedrooms have romatic four poster beds and lovely quilts, a huge draw if you're here on a romantic getaway.

Of course, the biggest draw for me was neither of these. For the glutton in me, it was the Devonshire Cream tea that is served daily at 3pm. You can read more of this in my restaurant tip.

Note:The Ye Olde Smokehouse is currently undergoing renovation. Do call (Tel : 609-362 2226 )before you go.

Address: Jalan Jeriau, 49000 Bukit Fraser, Pahang

Directions: It's a short walk from the Pusat or town centre

Price: US$80-120
