Older than Angkor by 300 years

While most travellers dream of seeing the Pyramids of Giza, I dreamt of seeing a lesser-known Asian Pyramid-like structure. The ancient Buddhist temple of Borobodur in Java to be exact. So ancient was the temple that it preceded Angkor Wat by least 300 years. And to top it off, Borobudur was re-discovered by the founder of Singapore. Yes, Sir Stamford Raffles, no less. So to pay tribute to the founder of my country and to fulfill my dream, I journeyed to this place. Though this place was smaller than Angkor Wat, it was rich in details and the ambience was better if not more mystical. The whole place was shrouded with mist, cacooned with lush green trees and overlooked by an active volcano bubbling in the distance. I absorbed all of this and was happy.

Borobudur was beautiful at sunrise. I don't remember taking a tour, just getting there on my own but the ticket included a short tour. There were very little people in the early morning, later it was very crowded. This was about 10 years ago.

That Sir Raffles guy was OK, Glen... I will have to rank him right up there with with the sainted San Miguel... (I really want to visit here soon... )
