"A Wedding in Kowloon" Kowloon by bpacker

Just when I thought I was going to settle down into a boring schedule for this year, a red card and jolted me out of my dreamy doldrums again. No, a fella like me wouldn't know nuts (or balls) about soccer so this was more of a penalty card that summoned me to Kowloon, Hong Kong. And within the card, it stated that I could bring another fellon, my husband to be more precise. I broke the news to the fellon and have to admit he was more excited than I was. Somehow, he was filled with glee that this time he would be going to Hong Kong purely for pleasure and not for business this time! I responded with horror. My wifely instinct told that hubby had savoury visions of pork buns, mango ice desserts, roasted suckling pigs and ducks dancing in his head. Godammit, I would greet this vision with more enthusiasm if I weren't running a half marathon in Aug! All these delicious sweetmeats would be dead weight in a race and I was sure I would sucuumb to all these delicious sins once I was in Hong Kong. To make matters worse, the two other gal pals who were going with me started planning a food marathon of sorts. I glumly agreed to the whole thing and wondered how I could go there and abstain from all the food.

Well, to make a long story short, I didn't. I ate my way through the time I was there. So did my gal pals. Never mind if they were sick with a bad bug from Shanghai! I couldn't help myself either despite feeling fatigue from an expedition in Fraser's. And pray why? Well, for starters, we had tons of discussions about the wedding and the talk always involved food and more food. A casual discussion among 20-30 somethings involved a full 13 course dinner in a swanky restaurant when an equivilent gathering would simply take place in Starbucks over in Singapore. Sigh, I was learning cultural difference the hard way. By the time the wedding arrive, I was sure I could not fit into my gown. Mercifully I did.

I also squeezed in a bit of time after the wedding to visit the places I liked and as usual, I ate my way around.

'Egrets blown backwards'. What an amazing sight! As you know, there is only one type of bird in the world that can actually fly backwards.

The mango ice sounds yummy. How did the marathon go after all that food? I hope to read more about the wedding.

Egrets blown backwards? That must have been quite a storm. Congratulations on not getting struck by lightning while swimming.
