My parents have a place in La Mata in Torrevieja (a runaway-place when they'll retire?), so I went there for a week in July 2003 to see, what it's like over there.

Torrevieja Bulevard

Torrevieja is a town located about 50 kms south from Alicante and 200 kms south from Valencia, in the area called Costa Blanca in southeast corner of Spain.

There aren't many hotels in Torrevieja so it's not that bad a tourist trap yet. Most of the foreigners are having a place of their own (or rented) or are visiting someone who has a place in the town.
Nevertheless, there are surprisingly many tourists - Spanish, German, English, Swedish and Finnish too.

There are many construction sites in and near Torrevieja, so more and more people are moving in...
