Here is a "low-down" of Malagas coffee and cafe culture.
There are many places to mingle with the locals and it is worth exploring the back streets for some tiny, yet cosy.
Ordering coffee in Spain makes even Starbuck's coffee menu look simple by comparison.
In Malaga, coffee remains a lively part of day-to-day life; for example there are 8 !!!! terms just for ordering a coffee; they refer to the amount of milk it should contain:
Cafe manchado = spotted with milk
Cafe nube = clouded with milk
Cafe sombre = with a shadow of milk
Cafe corto = short in milk
Cafe mitad = half milk
Cafe largo = large with milk
Cafe cortado = cut with milk
... and last but not least ...
Cafe solo = black coffee
I have - unfortunately I must say - not found ONE decent cup of coffee whilst in Spain, but was told that there is some around...
And God nows I tried --- well, better luck next time.
The one local spanish coffee brand called
'Torrefacto' can be found in some bars.
I'd rather stick to churros con chocolate :)
If you want to know the local news in Malaga and the surrounding "Pueblos"... get yourself a free newspaper called "Rural Malaga"... you can pick it up at various shops, cafe's and at the tourist centres.
Even with my little knowledge of Spanish it was nice browsing the paper for local gossip :)

LEPANTO!!!!! I felt almost back in one of the traditional Vienna coffe houses. It's huge, with great selection of all kinds of cakes, home made ice cream, and.... good enough coffee.
It also allows you to sit on the high street outdoors while watching the hussle and bussle ...nibbling on your orange&almond tart.... yummi!!!

- Cons:Better get used to the noise level.. it's buzzzzing
- In a nutshell:Malaga is an architectual and atmospheric beauty!!!!

I love a good "cafe solo", Spain has good coffee but in Portugal is much better :)))
I cant agree about the Spanish coffee, I absolutely love it... beats Nescafe. But I must agree on Chocolate con churros... yummy.
