Langkawi, the legendary Island is a major tourist attraction in the state. Once said to be cursed by the princess Mahsuri, the island is now a popular tourist destination and home to the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace exhibition (LIMA).
There is about 105 Islands surrounding during low tide and 6 Islands will dissappeared during high tide. Where once ninety nine Islands lay under a curse, there is today a new begining, new light, a new tourist spot and etcetera.
The legend has it that there is was once a beautiful princess Mahsuri, on the Island who was wrongly accused of having an adulterous affair. She was quickly judged, condemned and executed, eventhough she protested her innocence. The story goes on that when the executioner plunged his keris (dagger) into the princess and it drew white blood, a sign of innocence. With her dying breath, the princess is said to have laid a curse on the Island that was to last seven generations and now the cursed has been over since last year as its final year for cursed.
It's pretty interesting getting to know the history of the Island sometimes and give us lesson from the past.
