| Edingburgh gives you a sense of belonging |
Aint no sunshine on the hills of Scotland A truly magical city that makes you feel like it is home - even though you have never been there before!
My brother has studied and lived in Edinburgh for a while now. On the way in the car he said something very interesting
"Amara people in England treat Scotland like it is tibucktoo, but really we can drive there and back in a day"
And this was the first time it occurred to me how true that is. Of course money and time off from work is needed too. The people are very similar to Yorkshire folk, where anyone will start a conversation with you about almost anything! |
AROUND AND ABOUT IN EDINBURGH While my brother left for work I was left to my own devices to go explore - and this is the best city to just let loose and look around!
Luckily a lovely friend of my brothers called Aisla showed me around and we had a real girlie time!
After buying a all day tram ticket we got on the tram that goes from one end of the Royal Mile to the other.
THE ENDINBURGH TOUR This was a great idea I found. My friend and I took a seat upstairs after purchasing a ticket from a very nice Spanish ticket seller stood outside of the bus. We were able to feel the wind blow in our hair as we viewed the scenic, beautiful city of Edinburgh. The bus let us hop on and of around the Royal Mile. The ticket allowed us two days unlimited travel on the City Sightseeing tour, together with discount on admission to the Edinburgh Castle. The castle is top visitor attraction,
DON’T LEAVE THERE TILL YOU HAVE WITNESSED THE FIRING OF THE CANNON! It occurs at 1pm every afternoon, from Mills Mount battery. The cannon is beautiful and maintained in its original condition. My friend was able to inform me about this and also warned me of the sudden and very loud sound of the cannon! So be warned! The castle itself is upon an extinct volcano. A special name had been given to the cannon. Unfortunately my camera memory ran out to take a picture.
The picture shows me in front of my first spot - The Edinburgh Castle in all its original grand glory.
Now here is a warning and danger for you....watch out for seaguls pooing on you! I had a white top on heard what sounded like a CLAP and guess what landed on my shoulder? |
| GET A MAP BEFORE YOU TOUR! |
ALL THE WAY UP THE ROYAL MILE! Based in the city centre as you work your way up the Royal Mile you can also site see local shops with beautiful Scotland heritage related goods, as well as big name retail stores. It is worth getting a map and tram ticket where you can travel on a topless/tour bus and enjoy the view! |

On my previous trips to UK, never got a chance to go to Scotland...which is also on my wish list. | Nemorino Fri May 18, 2007 23:41 UTC Glad you had such a good time in Edinburgh. One of my sons used to study there, so I've been several times. Great that you were able to take the tour of Holyrood House. It was always closed when I was there, for one reason or another. | ophiro Mon May 22, 2006 13:22 UTC nice page of one of my favorite cities ! |
