View of the Loch from nearly half way up.......... | no comment. Words cannot describe |
This page is dedicated to my advisors!in the Forum! and the Onna Jujits club At 1343 Metres or 4406 Feet above Sea Level, Ben Nevis is the Highest mountain in the United Kingdom.
The name 'Nevis' comes from the Gaelic word for heaven or clouds. Ben Nevis can therefore be translated 'mountain with its head in the clouds' or 'cloudy mountain'. At any time of year the "Ben" is spectacular and a view you will never forget.
Please look at the Things To Do link for pictures and account of my adventure :-) |
| This is only GLEN Nevis! this is the easy bit! |
| | Some of it was 'easy' hence named 'tourist trail' Ben Nevis, although not as high as Alpine mountains, is positioned on a more northerly latitude and the climate can be considered similar to Arctic regions. We began with sunny intervals and a lovely sea breeze. there was some chilling wind on the summit of the Ben. We found that weather conditions changing within minutes - usually for the worse - as they work their way up the mountain. Those walking up the mountain footpath should be warned that the the mountain can be intolerant of the inexperienced, ill-prepared walker! |
Regular breaks to hydrate is very important.. Despite there being a 'tourist route', any trip up the Ben must be taken seriously. You will be spending many hours on a mountain that is known for sudden and unpleasant weather changes. Take sensible clothing and wear good walking shoes or boots. I recommend a compass and good directions to get off safely in mist (remember to take your compass!). People have died on this mountain. | | |
