What I Know Of Germany

Living Now in Germany

In the almost three years I have lived in Germany, it has become almost what I think of as my true "home" though I am a Russian from Ukraine who transplanted to the U.S. for time. It is the country in the world I feel the best both mentally and physically when I am there. Its always taking a great breath of relief to return to Germany after I've been away. I couldn´t exactly explain why.

There are many different regions of Germany, and for traveling I think it should be in the top five list of countries everyone should visit! Some people still remember Germany badly because of the WWII, but its one of the most progressive countries with tolerance, a hard work method, and friendly peoples. There are wonderful castles, very green valleys with traditions, beer, music and clothing, there are cities so modern with lots of businesses and culture from all over the world.

Capital of Germany: Berlin

I live in the capital of Berlin, and haven't nearly visited all the many wonderful little towns and unique places of Germany that I wish to. This spring we took a road trip from Berlin down to Dresden, over to Leipzig up to Madgeburg then back to Berlin, with lots of little stopover in between. It was a great trip, I found I took a few fotos with the digital but most were from a 35mm and I have not scanned all of them as yet.

When I went through fotos to place as intro for Germany, it was extremely hard to decide what represent it best...the Bavarian Alps, some city centre, a traditional looking hamlet house, some big guy with a beer wearing liederhosen, a punk rocker from Berlin with purple dyed Mohawk hair, all the lovely graffiti, a slick train station with silvered cars or a slow barge on one of the many channels still used...? Germany has so much to offer, so many faces and styles.

The foto is one I took in 2003 at Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin. Easy links to my other pages here are: BERLIN, DRESDEN, ORANIENBURG/SachsenhausenConcentration Camp, and LAND BRANDENBURG, which mostly just shows fotos from the countryside around Berlin.

Pros:"Many varied regions and traditions from city to city, town to town...great nature mountains, rivers and lakes as well as big city life and industry"
In A Nutshell:"I think everyone should visit Germany at least once"
