"Mount Fuji and surrounding area" Fuji by scotty1

A great trip to go on when you visit Tokyo is a day or two day trip to Mount Fuji. The journey takes some time and you feel that you are never going to get out of the Tokyo suburbs. Finally you start to see open fields and lovely little houses. Then the mountains approach you as you are driven by coach through three areas of Japan.Kanagawa,Yamanashi and Shizuoka. You travel along the Chuo Expressway on route to Mount Fuji, Japans highest mountain. You spend some time at the Mt Fuji information visitor centre. We then travelled up the mountain to the top staging post. It had just opened that day. There was snow all around us and a small cafe to have something to eat. We just walked around taking pictures.We then travelled down to the highland resort for lunch. There is a large rollercoaster theme park here and we noticed a sign saying not to feed the bears which spooked us a little. If a wild bear had came anywhere near me you wouldn't see me for dust.
after lunch we went to Hakone and we took a boat trip across lake Ashi. It was very beautiful and when we reached the small resort we took a cable car up to the top of Mt Komagatake to see the view over Hakone National Park. We then headed down towards Odawara to get the Shinkasen (bullet train) back to Tokyo. The price of that excursion was Y15,OOO. The bullet train was just awesome.
