Road Panamericana - through the desert

Favorite thing: The Panarmericana High Way goes along the peruvian coast, which in great extense consists of desert areas, sometimes interupted by fertile valleys where the rivers enter the sea.
In the deserts the persisting winds create some typical sand formations.
And if the winds are heavy, it can look like the sands are moving themselves.
Be careful when driving the car, specially in the night when the sight is short, the sand dynes may have entered the road.

Perú - Iquitos, a town with memories from the past

Favorite thing: The engineer behind the Eiffel tower in Paris, Gustave Eiffel, also made several other construction, bridges and so on.
This house made of metal designed by Eiffel was brought to Perú in 1897 and was the first pre-fabricated house in Peru. You will find it in Iquitos. One of the many towns in Perú that are worth visiting.

Perú - Not only the land of Inkas

Favorite thing: Perú has a very old history, it had what we call civilisation (organized society) contemporary with the Egypts. There was for instance huge constructions made in the valley of Supe (Caral) at 2650 B.C.
There are numerous tribes and cultures to investigate from different ages. The Inca imperium is of rather late existence.
There are good museums in both Lima and Cusco and in many other cities. Make a visit if you have the possibility!

Perú - The land of old traditions

Favorite thing: Traditions are maintained by the local people. When you go to Cusco, you have possibility to make a excursion to the Sacred Valley of Urubamba, on the way visiting old villages as Pisac, Ollantaytambo and Chinchero. There you can buy art handicraft made by local people. There are ceramics, wowen cloths, stone and wood carvings.

Perú - The land of Amazonas

Favorite thing: The Amazon river has recently measured beeing the longest river on earth (beats the Nile with many miles). To get to it, one possibility is to go to Iquitos, the town in the middle in the jungle. From there you can make excursions into the jungle, you can stay some nights at one of the river hotels (bungalows) that exists near the city of Iguitos.

Perú - The land of Inca Cola

Favorite thing: This is the local beverage for Perú, nowadays you also can find it in some other countries as well (though very limited number of countries), as the Inca Cola company has begun a cooperation with an old wellknown beverage company in US with representation in many countries.

Fondest memory: This beverage you can drink before, during and after the meal. It has a very sweet taste. I can´t promise you that you will like it, some do and some don´t.
