Teresa of Ávila

Sta Teresa at Puerta de Alcazar

One of the most popular of the saints. She was born in Ávil in 1515 and died 1582 in Alba de Tormes.
She was canonized in 1622 (Pope Gregory XV) and was given the titel Doctor of the Church, by pope Paul VI, as the first woman honoured with this title.

San Juan de la Cruz (John of the Cross)

San Juan de la Cruz

Born in 1542 and ordained in 1567.
He started together with Teresa of Ávila a reform of the Carmelites. The friars of the new reform wore sandals and were referred to as the Discalced Carmelites.
He died in 1591 and was declared as Doctor of the Church in 1926 (Pius XI).
His feast day is 14th December.

funny....i never found the highest spanish capital city (1100m) too touristic!even,if i was many times!...maybe,am i lucky?
