Trujillo is the birthplace of D. Francisco Pizarro, known as the Marqués Gobernador y Capitán General del Perú. As we all know Pizarro was the leader of the Conquest of Perú 1532 --. Trujillo is also the birth town of Francisco Orellana, the explorer of Equador and the Amazon jungle. |
| | One description of the Conquest is "History of the Conquest of Perú" by William Hickling Prescott, a book well worth reading to understand the connections between Spain and Peru. The betrayal against Inca Atahualpa by the conquistadores made an indelible stain on the Spanish coat-of-arms. It took me more than twenty years to be able to read it, for the feeling of shame. |
