Rackstadmuseet
The Rackstad museum shows works from some of the painters in the Rackstad colony (Rackstad is a small village located some 7 km north east of Arvika, near the lake Racken).
The painters represents the Swedish National Romance period, around 1900. A speciality was the nordic light (which you also will find in the Skagen museum in Denmark).
On this premises where the museum is, in the manor 'Haget', the sculptor Christian Eriksson was born 1858. He made some monumental work that is famous, one example is Sankt Göran och draken (St George and the dragon), now placed in the City Hall in Stockholm.
On the place has been a furniture work shop, which has been important for the handicraft that still exists in Arvika.
Near the museum is Nytomta and Oppstuhage, buildings with connection to the painter, now weaving ateljé respective memory building.

The Bird man
This disputed but in my opinion very good staty is called The Bird Man.
The artist is Liss Eriksson, the youngest son of Christian Eriksson.
The sculpture is often used as a symbol of Arvika and is a personification of the forces of nature.
Directions: In front of the rail way station.
The Mikaeli church is situated in the south west "corner" of the city, close to the lake Glafsfjorden.
The Humility (Christian Eriksson)
On the northern wall of the church a sculpture by Christian Eriksson (1858-1935) is to be found: The Humility.
The artist is buried opposite the sculpture
The town has two main churches: the West and the East churches. The old Mikaeli Church is the west one.
(The East one is the Trinity Church.)

The Michaeli church is a stone church constructed in middle of 17th century (at the same place as there was an elder wood church from 1300). The tower was erected in 1780.

The slate roof is made of stone from Glava.
When constructing the church it was a must to use material that was taken from the local region.
