  • Favorite Thing: Torggatan starts by the Bird man (at Torget) and ends up at the Trinity church.
As was observed several times this street is used for scateboards by youngsters.

  • Favorite Thing: A more city-like street, with houses constructed by bricks and plaster facades.
(The morning sun is just awakening, it is November and the sun is standing low at 10 o´clock in the morning)

  • Favorite Thing: Small villa quarter, not far from the city center.
    Modern houses.
In the back ground you can see the great lake Glafsfjorden.
Distances are never long in this city. The terrain is inclinated so one has easy to find the right direction (you just go "up" or "down" or "left" or "right", or whatever way you define it)

  • Favorite Thing: City scene not far from the market place and the railway station.
The houses are from different epoches.
In the city there are still many houses of wood, mainly 2-story houses constructed in the middle of 19th century, but this house I have learnt is a new constructed one, after a big fire some years ago. But the balconys look nice!

  • Favorite Thing: The central part of the town is little, the houses are put in rectangular blocks, and you will soon reach some residential areas.

    General Tips: Flooding

  • Favorite Thing: In autumn 2000 the lake Glafsfjorden flooded. In a serie of miscalculation, optimistic thinking by energy companies (water is used to make electric energy), unpredicted precipitation etc the lake level rised from +45 m over sea level till at the most +48,36 m the 30 Nov 2000.
The lake has a great area 102 km2, so it was not possible to let the water out rapidly through the narrow rivers downstreams.
The city center was endangered, but with great efforts and voluntary work, the water was held outside the city center, by putting up barriers (with a new emergency type of barrier that succeded to stop the water).
At the harbour lake level was about 70 cm over the ground (se foto).
Damages were caused by the water but has now been remedied.

  • Favorite Thing: Newly renovated after the flooding of Glafsfjorden in 2000, in this house you can meet some of the painters and handicraft artists and their works.
    There are two workshops.
The exhibitors are also to be seen in their home studios.
    Open during tourist season.

  • Favorite Thing: This house is the oldest house in Arvika. It is in private custody and not shown to the public. Just take a look outside.
You will find it on Fabriksgatan.
(It has a name I in this writing moment have forgotten, I will complete this later)
